December in Valencia doesn't look like a northern European Christmas - and that's exactly what makes it work. Mild weather, golden Mediterranean light, and the city's festive illuminations mean you can shoot a full outdoor holiday session without frozen kids or grey skies. As a family photographer in Valencia, this is one of my busiest and warmest seasons.
Why Valencia Works for Holiday Photos
While most of Europe is shooting holiday sessions in studios, Valencia in December still gives you 15-18 degrees and open sunshine. That means real outdoor family photos - the old town dressed in Christmas lights, quiet morning streets, even a beach session in winter coats and scarves for something completely different from the classic red-sweater studio look.
City Lights and Festive Streets
From late November the center fills with holiday lights and decorations, and an evening session through the illuminated streets gives your photos a warmth that no studio backdrop can fake. For families with small children, I recommend the earlier twilight hour - lights already on, kids not yet tired.
From Christmas Cards to New Year's Milestones
A holiday photoshoot isn't just for your annual Christmas card—it’s a beautiful way to document how much your children have grown over the past twelve months. Whether you treat it as a festive Christmas session or a New Year's family portrait to celebrate a fresh start, the goal is capturing the genuine warmth and connection of your family before the calendar turns.
Street Magic or Classic Studio Sessions?
While the illuminated streets and historic plazas of Valencia offer a cinematic outdoor backdrop, many families dream of that quintessential, cozy holiday aesthetic. Alongside our twilight city walks, we also shoot classic indoor holiday sessions. Whether it's a stylized Christmas studio photoshoot complete with a beautifully decorated tree, sparkling lights, and elegant festive decor, or a relaxed morning baking cookies in your own kitchen—we can tailor the mood to exactly how your family celebrates. At Home for the Holidays
If your Christmas story happens around the tree - pajamas, cookies, morning chaos - an in-home holiday session captures the season the way your kids will actually remember it. These sessions work beautifully in December's soft window light, no decorations beyond your own required.

FAQ: Planning a Christmas Session
When should we book for Christmas card photos?
Ideally by October, with the session in late November or early December - that leaves comfortable time for delivery and printing before you send cards out.

Can we do an evening session with the city lights?
Yes - twilight sessions among the holiday illuminations are one of my favorite December formats. For families with young kids, we start right as the lights come on.

What should we wear?

Warm, textured layers photograph beautifully in December light - knits, scarves, warm neutral tones with one or two festive accents. I'll send full styling guidance once you book.

Is an outdoor session realistic in December?
Absolutely - Valencia's December is mild, usually 15-18 degrees and sunny. It's one of the few places in Europe where outdoor holiday sessions are comfortable for the whole family.
