I travel regularly to Calpe and the surrounding Costa Blanca coastline for portrait, family, and couple sessions. Why Calpe for a Photoshoot



The Peñón de Ifach changes everything. That single dramatic rock formation rising straight from the sea gives Calpe a visual identity that no other town on the Costa Blanca can match — and as a backdrop for photography it is simply incomparable. The contrast between the white rock face, the deep turquoise water, and the warm Mediterranean light creates a natural cinematic quality that requires almost no intervention.


Beyond the Peñón, Calpe offers a layered visual landscape — the salt lagoon with its flamingos and reflected sky, the old Moorish quarter with its narrow streets and terracotta tones, and long stretches of relatively quiet beach that hold beautiful light well into the evening. It is a location that works for almost every style of session.

Locations I Use in Calpe


Over multiple shoots in and around Calpe I have developed a clear sense of where the best light and the most interesting compositions are:

  • Peñón de Ifach — the northern beach at the base of the rock gives you the full drama of the formation as a backdrop with soft sand in the foreground. Best in the hour before sunset when the rock face glows warm.
  • Las Salinas — the Salt Lagoon — flat, reflective, and completely unlike anything else on the coast. The flamingos are a genuine bonus. Works beautifully for editorial and fashion concepts.
  • Playa Arenal-Bol — the main beach curves gently toward the Peñón and catches beautiful late afternoon light. Good for family sessions where children need space to move.
  • Old Town — Barrio de la Peliosa — narrow whitewashed streets, terracotta pots, and an authentic Moorish character that provides a completely different visual register from the coast.
  • Rocky Northern Coastline — dramatic cliffs and clear water north of the Peñón, ideal for couple and fashion sessions where you want raw, cinematic scenery without other people in the frame.

Calpe sits at the heart of the Costa Blanca — roughly equidistant between Valencia and Alicante, and within easy reach of Javea, Moraira, and Altea. Whether you live here year-round, have a villa for the summer, or are visiting for a week — I come to you. There is no need to travel anywhere.



I travel to Calpe and the surrounding area regularly and include travel within my standard session packages for this region. Sessions are scheduled around golden hour — either early morning or the last hour before sunset — to make the most of the extraordinary Mediterranean light. I will always advise on the optimal timing for your specific date and chosen location.

Do you travel to Calpe for photoshoots?

Yes, I come to Calpe and the surrounding Costa Blanca area regularly. Whether you live here year-round, have a summer villa, or are visiting for a few weeks — I come to you. There is no need to travel anywhere.

 

Can we include the Peñón de Ifach in our photos?

Absolutely — it is one of the main reasons clients choose Calpe for their session. The northern beach at the base of the rock gives the clearest and most dramatic view. For the best light on the Peñón itself, late afternoon sessions when the sun is low and hitting the rock face directly produce the most cinematic results.

 

What is the best time of year for a photoshoot in Calpe?

 

Spring and early autumn are my personal favourites — the light is warm and golden, the temperatures are comfortable, and the beaches are significantly quieter than in peak summer. July and August work beautifully for golden hour sessions but require early morning or late evening timing to avoid the heat and the crowds.
