Hidden behind high walls, this neoclassical park is characterized by its marble statues, perfectly manicured hedge mazes, and structured pathways. Unlike the wilder, open spaces of the Turia, Monforte requires a deliberate artistic approach that interacts with the geometry and classical architecture of the space.


Because this location is so rich in texture and structure, it serves as a brilliant blank canvas that adapts to the subject. To demonstrate this versatility, I am sharing two recent portrait sessions in the gardens, featuring two different women and two completely distinct aesthetic directions.

Approach One: Modern Chic Meets Classic Romance


For my first session, the goal was to blend contemporary street-style fashion with the historical elegance of the park. I utilized the romantic archways covered in blooming pink bougainvillea, allowing the dappled sunlight to filter through the canopy. As a local photographer, I always advise clients that while this bougainvillea blooms in waves throughout the warm months, its absolute peak—when the canopy is the most dense, lush, and vibrant—happens strictly from May to July.


The styling for this approach was highly intentional and fashion-forward. The subject wore a relaxed yet crisp white outfit, paired with a statement light-blue leather cap and a bold pop of color from pink heels. Rather than relying on traditional flowing dresses, this smart-casual, modern styling provides a striking and refreshing contrast to the classical, romantic garden setting. The posing was relaxed and confident, resulting in portraits that feel effortlessly stylish and highly editorial.

In stark contrast, the second session utilized the exact same location to create a dramatic, high-fashion narrative. For this shoot, I focused on the park's geometric features—the sharp, symmetrical lines of the towering cypress trees, the imposing stone pathways, and the classical statues.


The wardrobe shifted to a highly structured black pantsuit with a daring, plunging neckline. Instead of soft movement, the posing was deliberate, angular, and powerful. By framing the subject within the strict, imposing symmetry of the garden's architecture, I created a dark, commanding editorial aesthetic. This demonstrates that a location does not dictate the final mood; rather, the styling and creative direction completely transform how the environment is perceived.

Yes. Since the garden offers distinct zones—from the wilder romantic paths to the strict geometric courtyards—bringing a second outfit allows us to capture two completely different moods in a single session.

 

When is the best time to see the blooming pink archways?

 

The famous bougainvillea tunnel in Monforte Gardens blooms in waves throughout the warmer months. However, if you are hoping for that spectacular, intensely pink canopy for your portraits, the absolute peak season is from May through July. If you book outside this window, the park still offers incredible evergreen hedge mazes and elegant marble architecture for a timeless backdrop.

 

Do we need a permit or to pay for entrance?

No, entrance to Jardines de Monforte is completely free, and we do not need a special permit for our portrait session. We enter as regular visitors and shoot seamlessly within the space.
